J-doramas are usually very cliche and lack common sense, Hana Yori Dango is no different from the wide pool of dramas out there. but I was seriously irritated by Hana Yori Dango's first episode because the entire plot was just ridiculous! How could the guys just act so snobbishly and the rest of the student body just follow blindly like sheep?! They're supposed to be the elites of the country and supposed to be the future of Japan, if it were real... society is going to collapse because they have absolutely no brains of their own.
I totally hated Doumyouji for his arrogance and that insufferable attitude towards violence, how can he just calmly hit someone when all that they did was make a trivial mistake?! GAH! At least Oguri Shun looks good here. I mean, his looks totally sucked during Hana Kimi and Gokusen. But he's quite the looker in here, and well, he looks pretty damn fine in white clothes. It's totally his color, I must say. Matsumoto Jun looks pretty hot too, but I can't stand that curly mop of his... >.< But he's hot, damnit. There's a whole lot of pretty girls too, from Inoue Mao to Sada Mayumi. And I bet that the show had lots of funding because almost every single person is decked out in branded goods and several scenes are filmed in expensive settings.
Okay, but gradually, I somehow lost that irritation towards Doumyouji and start feeling sorry for that poor boy. I know I like bad boys... but he's not exactly a real bad boy... and yeah, sometimes he's just so transparent, like it's so blatant what his feelings are and that stupid girl, Tsukushi just don't understand and pines after Rui. Blah, one love triangle coming up. If not for ogling at MatsuJun... I think I would have sort of gave up after a few episodes, not that this series is particularly long, only 9 episodes in total.
I love the insert song, it's by Otsuka Ai, Planetarium. And I can't find the entire version of it yet! I mean, I had the chance to get it way before, but I didn't watch the show yet, so I didn't know how nice it sounded... and now, I can't find it... WISH, the opening song is alright, it's by ARASHI though, MatsuJun's boyband.
this is MATSUJUN'S dining room! Believe it or not! And while this came up, the theme song sounded suspiciously like the HP one. lol.

Until I discovered the evils of Johnny's Entertainment. Okay, so I have 3 more episodes to go before I can start on Season 2 which is currently on my Bittorrent Client, leeching off from good hearted souls.

And I agree about the Taiwanese version. It was beyond crummy.
