Come Away, Oh Human Child
Jun. 1st, 2008 11:43 pmWent 'mugging' at the library at the crack of dawn. Okay, so not exactly dawn because I was late. As usual. But for a Sunday, it was still pretty early. I guess it's due to the holidays, but seriously, the 4th level of Jurong library was... surprisingly quiet for once... no wannbe teens blaring bad poppish music, no little children running around, disgracing the 'hallowed halls'. Okay, I exaggerate.
In my handy dandy file contained my Literature, History and GP homework. And I am very disappointed to say that I have accomplished none. Well, I mean I did doodle some notes here and there, but as I was largely stumped by the exercise 14 of the P4 package... I just lost the mood to do productive work. Instead, I went book-hunting.
And because I go off tangent horrendously, I shall now blabber about DRAMAS!!
Okay, should be asleep now... it's already like 1am... and I need to be functioning by 9 for my piano remedials. >.> Gah. At least there's NARNIA to look forward to, as well as catching up with Faza. (: Hope Narnia's good.

brilliant poem, brilliant poet too.

Finished JEFF LINDSAY's DEXTER IN THE DARK. Great book, it certainly kept me on the edge of my proverbial seat, since I was sitting on the floor. That said, I absolutely can't wait for the S3 of DEXTER! Michael C. Hall is a terrific actor here, and yeah, I wished I could have watch SIX FEET UNDER as well when my brother was watching it... but pesky 'O's got in my way... now I have to source for it myself... >.> How troublesome. But anyway, back on topic, although I must say that the plot moves along rather slowly in this book, it was at least better than book 2 where I skimmed through most of the dreary homey part. Here, we get to see Dexter making a change in his life, from bachelor to a bull on a yoke, which was once again quite boring because damnit, I read this book for the gory killing, I watch it to see how Dexter kills off serial killers in unique and fulfilling ways, I don't exactly want any soap opera-ish elements in this genre. At least Vince made it comedic. But all in all, the plot's pretty different, I mean, would you have like... made a moralistic killer and then warped the genre by adding in some (ridiculous, to me) supernatural elements? I wouldn't have done so myself...
Next, I skimmed through DAVID EBERSHOFF's THE ROSE CITY. ... Well, my gaydar was on, I guess, since I located this gay dominated book, but it's not exactly very prominent. Anyway, it's made up of like 6 or 7 short stories; but my favourite was Chuck Paa, his job was a helper was certainly quite interesting, considering my own inaptitude at nursing... the ending was quite poignant, striking a chord within my dark withered heart, but not all the stories managed to captivate me. But I guess this book of coming of age tales would be quite nice as bedtime reading where you just want an easy read.
I read THE STOLEN CHILD by KEITH DONOHUE halfway the other time, and was once again tempted to re-read it, because seriously, another tale of the FEY never fails to arouse my interest. It's a tale of lost childhood, stolen identity, finding that to survive there are things one must sacrifice and all that cliche stuff that most books seem to write about. But this tale is gripping and yes, hopefully, I'll finish it this time. For a debut novel, I must say this is excellent stuff. Now moving on, moving on.
ROBIN MCKINELEY writes excellent fantasy novels. I adored her retelling of conventional fairytales, but most of all, I wanted to re-read SUNSHINE, especially after all the vampire obsession that Sherilyn has infected me with. Now, I'm pretty sure TWILIGHT's good, but personally, I believe that this book is even better, more kick, I think. Dunno, I still haven't found Twilight yet...
On the subject of re-reading, there's so many stuff I want to re-read, if only I had the leisure... like FIRE AND HEMLOCK by DIANA WAYNE JONES. When I first read it at the age of 10, I felt that it was an exceptionally profound book, so much hidden meaning behind each sentences. I wonder, now that I am older, would I view the story as I did back then? Or would I take an entirely different view of the story now that I am more cynical and world weary?
Now, on to books that are waiting to be read. (:
PERCIVAL EVERETT's WOUNDED caught my interest with its opening line about caves. I haven't started on it yet since I just borrowed it, but I think it would be quite interesting. I read one of his other works, GLYPH, halfway the other time, couldn't find it this time though. That's was quite a fascinating read too, very unique take on geniuses.
I stumbled upon LUCY EYRE's IF MINDS HAD TOES completely by accident. I remembered reading the summary while in Times Bookshop, and noted it down to borrow, but the library had it in transit or something, so I filed the title away to the back of my mind, and today, the quirky art and title caught my attention, and hey, it was the book that I recalled wanting to read before. (: I like this kind of coincidental surprises, don't you?

I wish I had more time for books. (blah, this is a stupid stupid excuse!)

... this is why I love LJ so much. Yes, I found KUROSAGI finally! I don't really like to watch shows on streaming sites, I prefer to have them downloaded to my computer, even though it takes up more time, but it's just my way of doing things, I guess. Yeah, can't wait to get to watch the first episode, now's too late already though... Gah, one more day to ogle at YAMAPI! (: And it's good to know that I have real life friends who adore JE as well. Because I feel weird fangirling with other people I don't exactly know. (*with blank face* I'm a shy person, you know. Lol, channelling Ati and Aishah XD)
Meanwhile, I'm able to finish RH PLUS! Left with two episodes that I foresee to be pretty cliche because... I can just sense these things. But but but, I will still watch on. Because it's just cute in a certain way. Makoto and Ageha are supposed to be vampires... but... they're like so weak... and I barely see any differences from any normal high schooler. Aren't vampires supposed to be like stronger?! x.x
While I'm done with HANA YORI DANGO 1, worry not, because HANA YORI DANGO RETURNS! Haha, MATSUJUN FTW XD. Throughout the season one, i felt that Doumyouji Okaa-san was just a cold hearted bitch, but the last episode made me sort of revise my stand when I see her relenting, yet still trying to act nonchalant. Hmm, do you think that she's actually not that mean? But I totally hated her in front for being such a cold hag... blah. Maybe season 2 will shed some light on this.
K-DORAMAs coming up next after the commercials.

introducing: NINJA LEE JUN KI!!! XD

LOL! This show has just about everything: comedy, angst, mystery, drama, etc. What am I talking about? It's Iijimae! Caped avenger of the poor, the chivalrous do-gooder, and normal spaz. I mean, come on, this is Lee Jun Ki we're talking about. He looks spazzy like most of the time, until he dons on his Kakashi-esque mask.

spazzy expression thinking of not so innocent things. XD

awww.... don't cry, lol.

damn, he's just so cute. Haha. I love this expression, it's the ultimate spazz.

But... he's also bullied a lot! Getting all beaten up and bleeding and generally looking like a loser... that's just part of his 'disguise' I think...
