title: the road back to you
universe: capriccio
type: drabble
pairing: Xavier/Del
notes: uhm, right, all the places/things are real, I don't own any of them, just my characters. Also, I apologize for the lack of real knowledge because I don't really have the time right now to do lengthy research, most of these are just skimming from wiki. Eh, epic fail description of music as well... haha.

It was a big deal for him, getting invited to play with as a guest member with the Orchestre Lamoureux even before he had fully graduated from Conservatoire Lyon. Sarasate's Carmen Fantasy was no easy piece to play either, especially before a big audience. Of course, there was front row seat reserved for his mother, who had done nothing but support him all the way through. He was hesitant in asking Xavier to come though, as his boyfriend was most likely busy preparing for his own exams back in Seattle to fly all the way to Lyon to hear him play. He wasn't that inconsiderate, most of the time, though he knew that he could be highly self centered, but he understood the importance of Xavier's final year end exams, even though the black haired man was quite the genius. It sort of hurt though, having the chance to play with a real orchestra, and a huge crowd, but the one whom he wanted to see the most was missing.

Xavier didn't know what on earth Del was thinking about, as he stood on the stage, his dark eyes gazing ahead, far away into space. In his left hand, he held the slender wooden violin carefully, the other hand holding onto the bow. Slowly, the conductor strode onto the stage, looking all grand and yet at the same time, a little wild around the edges. The older man introduced Del, as the audience clapped.

At the first strike of the baton, the entire hall was filled with music. A lively start, reminiscent of a familiar Spanish tune, just as it died down, the music created from the first glides of the bow against the violin was startlingly and nearly wistful as the theme sang true. It was a sound too familiar to Xavier. He stared at the blond playing before the stage, three years away from his side, and yet he looked the same as always; steadfastly serious in his music, though with a hint of carelessness and nonchalance sliding through inevitably.

The entire concert was over an hour long, but to Xavier, it seemed that time stopped, during the middle of the second piece, when their eyes met for once. It was overly cheesy, now that he thought back. But at that particular moment, he wouldn't have cared even were meteors were to land onto earth. The violinist had nearly faltered for a split second, but he recovered almost instantaneously, giving Xavier a mischievous wink as he continued to play.

Del couldn't restrain the wide grin that was currently plastered to his face. He bet he looked like an utter fool, but he couldn't really care. Hearing the loud encores that erupted once Sado-san had lowered his baton and knowing that Xavier and his mother were somewhere in the thongs of people, this could be the best day of his life, really. He bowed with a grand flourish, excitement always making him much more flamboyant than usual, but the people seemed to like it, laughing heartily at his gesture. Flushing, he could hardly wait as the rest of the orchestra exited, so as to head back to his dressing room.

Xavier and his mother were already waiting for him at his dressing room. He arched an eyebrow curiously, wondering how on earth did they get past the security. Xavier grinned in reply as he answered his unspoken question in flawless French. Del blinked, completely astounded because he was sure his boyfriend didn't take French in high school.

"I picked it up two months before, once I knew about your concert from your mother, very unfortunately." Xavier remarked smoothly, as if speaking about the weather.

"Ah... I thought you were having exams now?" Del replied sheepishly.

"They are not as important as you, you know," Xavier told him, 'Besides, last minute cramming don't work, you need consistent work."

Del rolled his eyes, carefully plucking the bouquet of wisterias from Xavier who handed it over easily.

"Okay, boys, enough of the lovey-dovey speeches, I'm getting hungry while waiting for you two to finish up," Ms Reide said good-humoredly, finally walking over to them after chatting with another of the performers. She smiled as they nodded agreeably and Del quickly removed his stuff from the dressing room and returned, slipping his hand into Xavier's as they headed out on to the streets of Paris, brightly lit up now that it was night.

Alright, officially haven't studied for history. Think I shall just do so tomorrow, and I'll most likely just flunk it... gah.
