And there's my top 10 for 2008. Whew. That was long, searching through my memories and all that.
Top 10 Music Albums
10. Abney Park - Lost Horizons
because their sound is really interesting and I can't resist the steampunk angle that they got going. Lol
09. Morrissey - Greatest Hits
I don't know why I didn't discover him earlier cos his voice is utter love.
08. Era - The Best of Era
I first heard this when I was browsing through That CD Shop for some AFI (which they didn't have) and I totally loved the first song, Ameno.
07. AFI - Decemberunderground
I finally bought this even though I have it on my computer already, but mostly I just wanted to read the notes that were in the cd booklet.
and I found that I got ripped off for this bloody cd.
06. Lenka - Lenka
Her voice is so whimisical and she seems to have her own unique style and pace. Somehow her songs give me the feeling of sitting in a swing under a clear blue sky, blowing rainbow colored bubbles into the air.
05. Patrick Wolf - The Magic Position
Because he has always occupied a place in my heart ever since I heard Tristan. :)
04. Slovak Philharmonic Kosler - Mozart's Requiem in D minor
I was reading this original story which mention this piece throughout and the entire story was really brilliant so I had to listen to this and really, it's amazing. Especially Kyrie Eleison, for me.
03. Kiyoharu - LIGHT -saw the light and shade-
I've been sick quite a few times this year, and during those times, it has always been Kiyoharu's mellow voice and unobtrusive instrumentals that got me through those hazy periods.
02. Plastic Tree - Utsusemi
The latest album from puratori, while this may not be exactly the kind of album that you fall in love with upon the first hearing, I must say that this definitely shows off the band's versatility and character. Ryuutarou's voice is really different with each song and the lyrics are heartbreakingly beautiful
01. Versailles - Lyrical Sympathy
Versailles remind me of an era of aristocrats, fine dining, exquisite gowns and waistcoats, and Kamijo's voice has hooked me in ever since Lareine.
Top 10 Movies
10. Angus, Thongs and Perfect Snogging
It's childish and reminds me of my foolishness back then, haha, and hey, cute english boys with solid accents. :D
09. Tropic Thunder
It's so ridiculous and wrong that it's funny. Ben Stiller still delivers even though I may not like all his works. (and the trailers before the actual movie was hilarious, all those spoofs. In fact the entire movie is a gigantic parody.)
08. Sweeney Todd
Johnny Depp. :D Helena Bonham Carter. Tim Burton. And soundtrack. (do I still need to go on?)
07. Harold and Kumar Go to Guantanamo Bay
Another ridiculously funny movie, guess you know what genres I favour, huh, lol.
06. Let The Right One In
It's brilliant, the acting and the directing and everything.
05. The Chronicles of Narnia: Prince Caspian
I love the music for this and Edmund was so cute in this one. :D Shallow, I know.
04. Pride and Prejudice
Finally watched this and the music really good, kind of fitting for the atmosphere and all that.
03. L: Change the World
I'm biased towards L. That's all I can say, because seriously the movie isn't the best, I know. But hey, eye candy, in a sense? Haha.
02. The Dark Knight
Batman wins at the heroes contest, I tell you. He pwns them all because he has no innate superpowers and still manages to save the day and he has to undergo all these angst and self reflection before he finds himself. Lol.
01. Stardust
Because I'm biased. :D And I love the music and the storyline even though the novel was better. Lol.
Top 10 TV Shows
10. The Lair
It's campy and ridiculous and cliched and funny.
09. Heroes
Because I cannot ever resist Sylar. Or his eyebrows.
08. Nodame
I have no idea why I didn't watch this sooner, because music and madness is so my combination.
07. Soul Eater
I was jaded with anime, this revived me interest. And the art is so very suitable and the characters are just adorable.
06. Junjou Romantica
It's my guilty pleasure and it somehow makes my heart skip a beat or ache. Depends on the situation.
05. Tiger and Dragon.
Nagase as a gangster. Okada. Just being there. Lol.
04. Dexter
The storyline of a serial killer who only goes after serial killers, way cool.
03. Leverage
Because they are a bunch of thieves stealing from thieves. And there are witty lines. (reminds me of Kurosagi)
02. Merlin
Even though there are historical inaccuracies and random plots, Bradley James and Colin Morgan keeps me coming back for more. :D
01. Torchwood
Because there's Jack. And Ianto. Because there's Jack and Ianto. Not to say that I don't adore the rest of the team, because I also love Tosh and Owen and Gwen. :D
Top 10 Books
10. Neil Gaiman - Anansi Boys
Finally finished this and really really loved it. There were some unexpected turns, but it was good.
09. Simon R. Greene - The Man With the Golden Torc
This is completely a parody of James Bond and it's well written urban fantasy, as expected from the creator of the Darkside series.
08. Mike Carey - Dead Men's Boots
Jam packed with action, there's never a dull moment and the characters are really believable. Really smooth read.
07. Elizabeth Garner - The Ingenious Edgar Jones
The setting, the writing style and the cover. I was hooked. :D
06. Sherilyn Kenyon - Acheron
Finally we understand this enigmatic character. A lovely story which tugged at my heart.
05. Hero - Perry Moore
Very smooth and easy to read, and really, for teenage readers, it may help them shift their perspective a little on life.
04. Russell Brand - My Booky Wook
Quite an amusing read through his life, all those dramatics and scandals. Haha.
03. Jostein Garner - Sophie's World
I make it a point to re-read this yearly because as each year passes, I understand a bit more of the philosophical parts. Lol.
02. William Goldman - The Princess Bride
It was a really easy read, extremely funny and I really got to buy it if I find a nice edition of it because I can't stand the tacky movie like cover.
01. Haruki Murakami - Hardboiled Wonderland and The End of the World
This is the book that started my Murakami craze, sort of. And I think it's the one book that has the least mention of sex, god knows that South of Border was almost filled with it. >.> It's not that I'm a prude but really, sex don't really do anything for me, so what I really want is plot, unless you tell me that the sex scene is going to move the plot forward somehow.
Sorry, but lj is not cooperating with me tonight... will do something about the lack of lj-cut asap.
